Towards the transformation of onions (Allium cepa)
This review outlines the potential for developing a reliable transformation system for onions (Allium cepa). A summary of the onion tissue culture literature is presented along with descriptions of the gene transfer systems available. The most suitable regulatory sequences and selective genes that could be used for onion transformation are described, together with the problems which may be enco...
متن کاملAntidiabetic Effect of Kernals of Balanites roxburghii in Normal and Alloxan-induced Diabetic Rats
The antidiabetic activity of Balanites roxburghii was carried out in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Oral administration of methanolic extract of kernals (0.1 and 0.3g/kg body weight) significantly lowered the blood glucose levels. The activity can be attributed to reducing the intestinal absorption of glucose. The activity reported was dose-dependent.
متن کاملAntidiabetic Effect of Sida cordata in Alloxan Induced Diabetic Rats
Medicinal plants are efficient ameliorator of oxidative stress associated with diabetes mellitus. In this study, ethyl acetate fraction (SCEE) of Sida cordata was investigated for scientific validation of its folk use in diabetes. Antidiabetic effect of SCEE was confirmed by antihyperglycemic activity in normal glucose loaded and diabetic glucose loaded animals as well as normal off feed animal...
متن کاملAntidiabetic activity of Gladiolus psittascinus in alloxan induced diabetic rats.
The methanol extract of Gladiolus psittascinus bulb was evaluated for its antidiabetic activities in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Blood glucose levels of the glucose loaded and alloxan-induced diabetic rats were estimated over 180 minutes using the O-toluidine and glucose-oxidase methods. The methanol extract at 1 g/kg dose exhibited 16.2% decrease in blood glucose level in the glucose loaded...
متن کاملAnti-diabetic and hypolipidaemic properties of garlic (Allium sativum) in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
In this study the hypoglycaemic, hypocholesterolaemic and hypotriglyceridaemic effects of garlic were studied in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Compared to normal (non-diabetic) rats, STZ-induced diabetic rats had approximately 200% higher serum glucose, 50% higher serum cholesterol and 30% higher serum triglyceride levels as well as 86% higher urinary protein levels. Daily treatme...
